Gulf of Mexico Flower Gardens

The Flower Garden Reefs are 100 miles offshore from Houston, Texas and average depths of 60 to 70 feet of clear water beyond the influence of the muddy Mississippi River.  They are the northermost coral reefs in the hemisphere and are protected as Marine National Monuments.  For US divers, the lure of the reefs is that they are close to home and offer lots of large pelagic fish seasonally including schools of hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and whale sharks.
